A common hiking destination is Orlík Castle (www.volny.cz/zamek_orlik), which stands on the shore of the Orlická Reservoir north of Zvíkov. It can also be accessed by boat (www.lodnidopravaorlikslapy.cz).
15 kilometers east of Zvíkov is the town of Milevsko (www.milevsko-mesto.cz) with a very interesting premonstrate monastery with the basilica of the Visit of the Virgin Mary, while the cemetery church of St. Giles is partly of Romanic origin.
The heart of the area is the town of Písek (www.mesto-pisek.cz ) with the oldest preserved bridge in the Czech Republic. The eErly Gothic Royal Castle holds the Prácheň Museum (www.prachenskemuzeum.cz).
Just several kilometers southwest of Písek is the village of Kestřany (www.kestrany-obec.cz) with a unique composition of two gothic fortresses closely next to each other. This location is not commonly frequented by visitors.
